    Pictures and questions

    Hello all,

Some pics below as I move forward (slowly) with the SIII cosmetic resto!

    1. Sunshield for the roof: Circled are some bumps (3 in the front and 3 in the back) that appear to be in the exact location front and back. Are these original, or do they need to be straightened out when I drop it off for paint today?

    2. Gutter trim for the roof: Circled is a bump that is in the very center of the front of the gutter trim. Again, straighten it or is it original? It is not on my standard roof gutter trim, but it is formed so perfectly and again, centered, that it is hard to tell if it is damage or not!

    3. What in the world is this panel that is riveted on (circled). Am I missing a piece, and something else should be there, or ?????? Any thoughts appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Julian

The indentations on the sunshield are original, they line up with the ribs on the roof. The one on the gutter is not original. I am guessing someone had a roof rack on there, and the leg bent the gutter when they tightened the securing bolt up.

The panel in the engine bay is beyond me, but I have it too on my 66 IIA. Nothing goes through it on mine, so I am unsure if there was an accessory that was to be mounted there or what.

      Stomper-

Thanks. Yes, there is a rack on my standard roof. I don't think it has a center front "leg", but will check. Of course, could have been some other rack there too! Interesting you also have the mystery riveted panel. I can't see it being original....but maybe?!

My exhaust on the 2.6 goes out where that panel is riveted I think, but I could be wrong. maybe they ran out of the wings or someone swapped it at some point.

Interesting.....so that wing came from a 2.6 Rover then! Quite possible, as an army captain owned it and a couple of other Rovers that he sold and/or dismantled (hence the massive parts stash I've been working through!).

all of the fenders have provisions for the exhaust for the 2.6/diesel. Your fender is stock.

Thanks Ike.....great insight. So the panel should be there like stomper's!

They do help keep crap out of the engine bay. Mine is a piece of rubber at this point.
