I think I read somewhere that the gasket Material between 2 & 3 is the likely culprit...could be wrong though.

Well I have the gasket kit from RN, so once my friend gets back we will dive in and see what we find. I will also check the compression on the other two cylinders after work tonight hopefully.
Thanks,

Well unfortunately after I had cleaned the cylinder head I discovered two cracks on the cylinders with low compression... I'm guessing that means I need to order a new cylinder head?

Probably not what our hosts want to hear, but why not just ask around for a good used head and have a machine shop "recondition" it? You'll be in it for a heck of a lot less than $800!--Mark

That's a good idea, I just want to make sure there is nothing I can do with the cylinder head I have... It seems to be in decent shape except the cracks. Can the one I have not be "reconditioned"?WAR EAGLE!

Finally got the new cylinder head on, new thermostat... The engine runs great, but I haven't gotten the guts up to really drive it far for fear of overheating again and needing yet another head.WAR EAGLE!
