    Tool Kit Spanner Question.

The genuine tool kit, as supplied with new Series Rovers, included a 3/8" BSF x 1/2" BSF open ended spanner (it also equals 5/16" x 7/16" Whitworth).

The 3/8" BSF end is bent at an angle of +/- 30 degrees. Does anyone know what this is designed to work on?

    Just curious.

    TedW-

I know i use one of these in 3/8" to reach the clutch slave when I'm bleeding the line. The offset makes it much easier. I don't have one of the genuine toolset wrenches to know exactly what it looks like but maybe?

The jaw on a 3/8" BSF measures almost 9/16" across the flats, so it's not going to work to bleed the slave. Good thought, though!

That's exactly right. And you can see the bend of the jaw in the photo.

I understand that it might have a variety of uses on a Series - that's why it was included in the OE tool kit. My question is why did Land Rover choose to include that size spanner with that bend on the jaw in the stock tool kit? What task is it meant to do?

I don't have my rover with me to check, but was it for removing the fill plugs for the swivel ball resivoir? The cant of the spanner would make it easier to do with the wheel still on the vehicle. That is a normal service operation, it would only be logical that Rover supplied a tool to do it with.

Stomp: That makes great sense. I think the jaw is a little too big, though. IIRC the fill plug is 1/2". I'll check it when I get home.

Stomper: I finally checked this out, and as I thought the jaw is too large for the swivel plugs - it's just under 5/8" AF equivalent.

That is a good thought too Terry. Ted, try pulling out the owners manual with the service recomendation list, and try the wrench on each service item. it has to be one of those.

                      Not to hijack this...

...is the Owners Manual that shows the OE tools supplied with a Series IIfound in this book?

I couldn't afford to purchase all the tools outlined in the big green book, as noted in the tools section

4flatt: No - they are listed in the parts catalogue. PM me your email and I'll send you a scan of the pages.
