    removal of locking hubs question

hey! im working on my project 109 and it has locking hubs but the twist knobs that lock it in are missing, i was wanting to just switch back to the original drive flanges but i cant get the locking hubs off, i got the cover off but when i try to take the retaining nut off of the spindle the whole spindle turns, i locked it on 4wd to see if that would help but it still turns free, does that mean the half shaft is broken? how can i get the spindle to not spin so i can take the retaining nut off?

If both hubs are unlocked, even if the x-fer case is in 4WD you are simply turning the differential. Try using an impact wrench on the nut, or hold the other side nut somehow as you loosen the nut.
