Single Stage Paint-Pastel Green.....should this be difficult?!

So my truck is in for paint......single stage, in pastel green with presumably one of the paint codes provided in RN's list.

According to my painter, at the 2 paint shops in town they are having trouble sourcing these codes in single stage?!

Has anyone had a similar problem.....please advise with any tips. I didn't think this would be a big issue. Supposedly, they've mixed something up close and he wants me to look at it, but I'd rather go with the straight makeup of one of the codes provided, for future touch ups, etc....

    Thanks,
    Julian

Not sure if it’ll help ……
On the printout that came with the PPG paint …..for the Pastel Green it reads.

Having never painted anything before, I went with single stage when I sprayed an MG Midget a few years ago. I went to NAPA and they could mix it. I actually brought them an original paint sample and they scanned it and color-matched. It went on easy and turned out pretty nice too. The product line was called CrossFire, IIRC.

        Hey julian,

If no one near you is a PPG authorized retailer, could you take a trip to Co Springs to pick some up from a PPG place there?

          Thanks guys...

Believe it or not, the 2 paint shops are in Co Springs! There is a NAPA in town.....for some reason he does not like it, but I may tell him to get it there!

I will see Monday what he has for a paint mix. I am just concerned as all he has to match paint with is probably 40 year old pastel green from one of the panels!

          Cheers,

            Dav1550-

Was this mixed for a single stage application? If so, will try it.

PPG Concept ……It was touted as one the best single stage paints on the market.
high solid / Concept mixes 4:1:2, reducer, hardener. Applied over a primer coat with NO clear coat it gave that original look and finish of a series rover.

                FYI......

The paint info that Dav1550 provided worked! Thanks!

"Unfortunately," it indeed is the "best" single stage paint on the market according to the supplier my painter used. Including the hardener, thinner, etc.... $530.80 for 1 gallon

I told my painter he'd better not spill a drop!!!!

Anyone want to buy some more parts from me?!!!!!!!

                Cheers,

It's been a long time since I had paint mixed, but I have never paid more than $100.00 for paint, reducers, hardners, thinners, etc. They even threw in mixing sticks, funnel filters, etc.

I think $500.00+ is crazy. But I am not going for a perfect motor. Now days for me, I use off the shelf rattle cans to do the job. But of course mine is not supposed to be beautiful.

                    Paint

How many gallons are you going to use and how much of what kind of vehicle are you planning to paint? I'm looking to do inside and out of a 109 regular and am just curious.

casurveyor--I agree, but unfortunately my painter did not ask about the price before mixing and buying it! Mine is not going to be show, but it will be a very nice driver (I hope!).

I don't know how much paint it will need.....but will report when I do. It is a S3 88....of course the side panels, roof and sunshield will be in limestone (which I told him he can mix to match the powdercoated rims and use a LESS expensive paint!!!!).

                      Regards,

My painter called me over as he wants to start spraying the final coat on some parts. He was concerned that the color I chose was not what I wanted!

Although the paint was mixed using the 46250 code, and clearly states LAND ROVER/RANGE RV LT GREEN 46250 on the label detail, it appears to be quite a bit more blue than the original (granted faded) pastel/light green on my truck!

Has anyone used this code before, and noticed that the hue of the paint appeared a bit bluish? If this is correct, then fine, but if not, they are claiming they can adjust the paint tint to more closely match one of the example panels I have with the old paint on it!

Wanted to look at the sample in the sunlight, but alas it was a dark and dreary overcast day! Perhaps tomorrow....

Any tips appreciated! Expensive paint.....should be the "right" color green!
