I guess it all just depends on what you want and where you are going to get it from..

Is there any advantage to purchasing turners complete unit. Would rebuilding your own block and purchasing only the high performance head be a cheaper option?

im sure any good machine shop can rebuild one of these motors..
but doing a cost comparison, time, effort and energy flow graph along with a whole lot of I dont care thrown in the mix I decided to buy the complete unit.

I wont have a lot of down time that I really cant afford. (time is worth more than $$$ to me) and at the end of the day I have a spare engine I can do with what I please..

deff not for everybody, but for me the drop in reman was a no brainer..

came with 2 jugs of break in 30 wt oil and a simple line in the booklet that said basically no idling or heavy load on the engine.

Ill run it DD duty from now till it put it away for the winter.. change the oil and be ready for whatever the spring throws at me.

There is a break in procedure that calls for the engine to be brought up to operating temperature, then re-torque the head bolts (IIRC, while the engine is still warm, but double-check that) and re-set valve clearance. They also want you to vary engine speed - don't cruise at a certain rpm for a long period of time. Then change the oil at 500 miles and break-in is complete.

just noticed something about my new engine vs. my old engine..
my old engine has the oil fill in the valve cover..
my reman has the side tube..
I'm not opposed to swapping, but are the tubes available?

It may not be right, but I was always under the impression the oil fill in the valve cover change went when they went to the 5 main bearing engine.

Talk to Matt Browne (junkyddogII) as he has my old 2.25 engine which had the tube fill or talk to Sean (stonefox) as he might have one as well.

You could always clean up and put on your old valve cover (just ask turner for another sticker/plate) to put on it.

I was thinking that as a backup, or calling them and asking them what to do in this situation..

I found that Turner was very responsive to my questions submitted via e-mail. I would verify what they want you to do since the engine is under warranty.

Why do you want the side filler tube? Just curious. The way you have it now is a lot cleaner IMO - less stuff in the engine bay. I have a IIA and can now bleed my clutch slave through the engine bay.

I switched to the valve cover w/cap when my new engine was built, and drilled / tapped the filler tube cover for a vent tube, so the engine is still vented from the head and the block.

I just got my engine out today, finally. Going to tear it all down this weekend, and planned on dropping it off a the machine shop Monday.

If you don't mind, what did the Turner cost, delivered? Want to weigh that option before I commit to the machine work.

                            Thanks!
