    Coating the tub.....

One of the non original things I wanted to do was rhino coat the interior of the tub. Wanted something durable with the dogs back there and hauling stuff around.

Is there an option that anyone has used effectively as a DIY coating for the tub (roll on coating, etc..)?? Looking for a cost-effective alternative to the rhino coating place that wanted $500 to do just the tub!

Any insight on product, results, and application appreciated!

    Regards,
    Julian

Ive never used it myself, but I have heard great things about Herculiner, and its repairable, unlike the spray on stuff.

I like herculiner. Work pretty good. It's all about your prep. Make sure to etch the metal good, and use a strong anti-grease spray to get the metal clean before spraying it.

        Thanks Jason and Tony,

Tony--dummy here, but how do I etch the metal? I did read up on it a little, and it seemed to say to scuff it up very well.....

If its already painted, you can "scuff" it to give the liner something to bite into. If its bare metal, you may want to look at some form of metal conditioner like "Metal Ready" or "Phospho Prep and Etch".

You could spray an etching primer but you would have to sand it to make it rough. The last time I had a P/U bed done they literally took an angle grinder with a sanding disc and hit all the paint to scuff it up. The tech told me that I might want to leave since the truck was two days old. I think that you just don't want a shiny surface but want one with "grooves" for the stuff to sink into and stick.

              Got it....

Well, its the original paint in the tub, except for where the 2 new rear tub side quarter panels butt up against the inside (bare). So will have to spray some etching primer on it (which I think I have a can of!).
