Mentioned above is the callout of between the spring hanger and the brake drum. I do the same and the axle sits in the pocket on the jack stand which to me feels more secure than your set up. Probably fine what you are doing but to me having the axle securely in the v of the jack stand feels very stable.

brilliant idea. i thought about using some railroad ties, but i'd have to drive down to the brick yard and buy a few, and at this point all the tires are off the rims of the 88 so i'd have to rent a truck for pick-up etc... you see where this is going.
also, would enjoy seeing some pics of the post and beam house.
agreed art. i would prefer to have the axle settled in the "v" of the saddle, but on my 88, there doesn't seem to be enough width between the spring hanger u-bolt and the bolt plate where the swivel ball attaches to the axle. the saddle of the stand post appears to be too wide to fit there.
