    Tail Gate Questions

    Hello all,
In preparation of painting my Series III, I wanted to convert my drop down tail gate to a swing out door. I've searched all over, but can't tell if I could keep my current drop down(removing the tabs on the bottom), but add the 2 hinges for a swing out door. My main concern is whether or not the door will open, or if it will bind, etc...If it works, I was planning on using two anitluce latches to secure the non-latch side. Any thoughts or anecdotes?
    Thanks as always.

Exactly what I did to my ROW Def 90.
2 rear door hinges and just 1 anti luce latch at the top.

I can send pix after the weekend, it is precipitaing considerably here at the moment.

      Great, Thanks Les
Do you use one of the door stops or anything to keep the tail lights safe?

Go back into the East Coast Rover archives and you will see pictures of what Les is talking about.

          Les,

How long ago did you do this mod? Do the hinge bolts support the tailgate without crushing it? Did you put tubes in the bolts holes or use a backing plate?

          Thanks,
          Tom P.
