    Steering play

The last few times I have driven the Rover it has developed excessive play in the steering, you can turn the steering wheel 1/4 turn without it turning the wheels. Where do I look to check for wear or is there an adjustment to tighten it back up. Thabks for the replys

The steering box has an adjustment screw held in place with a locknut. Follow the instructions in the manual as incorrect adjustment can cause damage.

I would check the tightness of the pinch bolts on the steering relay arms, the bolts mounting the steering box to the bulkhead support and the nut with lock tab on the steering box itself as all of these can cause excessive slop.

The slop can also be from worn rod ends on the tie rod, drag link or steering box to relay link.

Thanks for the info. The PO just put new tie rod ends and drag links so it is probably not that and the excess play has come on quite rapidly. I will take a look at the steering box in the morning .
