    Wings and panels

Does anybody have some good photos of the front section of an un-molested IIA wing? Mine was rebuilt at some point with steel sheetmetal and nuts & bolts holding the seams together, and I'm trying to get an idea how hard it would be to repair properly. Also, anybody know off the top of their head the standard thickness of Birmabright panels on the LR? 16 gauge?

Aluminum thickness is generally measured in decimal inches. If you don't get an answer on the thickness of the skin, I'll measure it when I get home later.

There's some helpful ones there. What I'd love to see is a close shot of the inside front; some PO replaced the front panel (where the turn signals mount) with a piece of steel, and bolted it all together. I'm assuming it was all riveted originally. I have access to a full machine shop with brakes and rollers and such, so I'm hoping I can fab something from 5000 series aluminum sheet that will fool a casual/drunk rivet counter.

                  repair with steel?

You are wise to use AL to repair the fender. Avoid combining metals. cheers.

                    It's half-bolted, half-riveted.

Three parts to the wing: top, front, and side.

Top -> front are riveted (on mine)
Side -> front & top is bolted.
