    throw out bearing?

As I move toward the clutch replacement I have planned also on replacing the throw out bearing...... isn't that prudent?

    But,
a knowledgable parts person indicated that the 'wet' design of the 2a clutch release is not exposed to the wear of a more traditional 'dry' design and that they do not need the same protocol of automatic renewal when the clutch is replaced. He advised removing the withdrawal housing, clarifying the state of the bearing and simply reinstalling the unit if the bearing is OK.

    is this reasonable advice?

Yes, reasonable advice on a IIA.
On a SIII you just replace it.

In the clutch withdrawal housing the bearing is installed on a withdrawal sleeve and positioned on the fork and shaft so that there is, per the green bible, a 7/16" space between the withdrawal sleeve and the assembly housing.

My assembly seems in great shape and so no disassembly is needed, Except......the residual space between sleeve and housing is off by a 1/16". That is there is 1/2" when shaft is positioned properly. Notwithstanding my crude description, Is this decrepancy a problem? I could access a press and address this if it is a concern. But, is it a concern?

Replace it. Procure bellhousing "drain plug". Before any off road work, install drain plug.

Why not replace it? The cost of the bearing < labor to pull out the transmission.

This will prevent future depression. I never used the drain plug and after the last big mud hole, it started to make interesting noises.
