Thanks for the encouragement, one of the reasons I decided to post my project here is so I get it done and to stay in track with this idea. Things tend to get changed and end up pipedreams if its just on paper. I'll be working on the small stuff since I can't weld. I just finished a custom hand etched aluminum 5 1/2 inch wide grill badge. Went with black lettering enamel for the logo. I'll keep my eye open for an original 1948 cast badge and hope the price isn't too high.1972 NAS Series 88 SWComment

I don't think these mods will make any difference to any authorities unless you either try to sell it or attempt to pass it off as being original to the vehicle when having it inspected as a regular vehicle. If you get it registered as historic or as a street rod you can get away with anything. Simply keep the old parts so that it can be easily returned to its OE spec.
Just picked up some early Series 2 wings for a song. Both outter panels are damaged and the inner fenders have galvanic corrosion that will need to be cut/replaced. These wings will be a good base for the build.
Not sure what year these wings are from. I know they came off an 88" LHD station wagon, i'm thinking 1960. On the two front light indicators, the outer is molded (bumped out) for the signal light.Last edited by LH Drive; 11-22-2011, 02:25 AM.1972 NAS Series 88 SWComment

I've been working on re-shaping the bonnet. It's the original razor-edge S3 bonnet that might just work after all. It's going to leave a 1/2" gap at the wings but I can live with that. I can always fill the gap with a seal or metal.
I'm picking up the .250 thick aluminum plate next week to start working on the radiator panel. Hope to have it done in the next few weeks.
My 1st grill came out just a tad too wide. I didn't account for the wire mesh wrapping around the grill frame. It was a tight fit and would be scratching the inner wings. I made another mesh grill with 1/2" clearance on each side.1972 NAS Series 88 SWComment

some progress
Today I finished cutting out the front section of the radiator panel. The .250 (1/4") thick aluminum plate was slow cutting with a hand held sabre saw. Just need to finish rounding the edges and start cutting the radiator support panels out of 1/8" aluminum sheet before dropping it off at the welding shop. It will get a 1.25" wide strip welded around the radiator panel to mount the wings.
Made a small LR badge out of 2 part epoxy. Wanted it to look like it came off a rough cast and with raised lettering vrs. the flat plate I had made. Used metalic silver enamel paint and will paint the letters black. Added a small embossed 1,2,2A,3 to represent all the Series parts I'll be using to complete this build.1972 NAS Series 88 SWComment
