exhst mani new vs old type?

i busted a tap in my exhst manifold months ago. pipe's been held in place w/ 2 nuts & studs and a c-clamp. a nos came today and it's a bit differant. it has a butterfly type baffle in it. i don't see a rod coming out the back of the one i'm replacing. our host sells this type and says they fit ii, iia & iii. is there anything i should be paying attention to? should i wire the bafle open? should i put a cable on it so that i can open & close it? what's its function.

You must have gotten a SII exhaust with the Hot Spot or heat riser valve in it- see this thread here for info:

thanks york. my new one has no spring attached so i'll put a choke cable on it so that i can use it for warm ups on cold morns.
