Driving with a shot rear differential

What would be the effect of driving for a day (say 9 hours) on a shot differential? Thanks in advance to anyone who gives an answer.

i would remove the driveshaft and if possible one of the axels, reason behind that is that if the spider gears catch while turning (if they are broken) you may destroy the housing and break one of the axels if they have not been removed, of course disconect the d shaft to keep from having all that noise and if the pinion breaks whole driving it will be catrastrophic to say the least.
personal experience ended costing aroun 3,000 bucks for that mistake.
