2003 range rover transmission over heat indication

I am getting a transmission over heart indication on 2003 range rover hse. It wont change gears from 2 to 3 or 3-4 when the message is on. Sometimes occurs right away when i start driving. Anyone know what may be causing it?

    thanks

that is a fully electronic transmission, anything can upset it, including but not limited to miscommunication between modules, the trans could be good but the control module goes in to limp mode.
it may be fixed by a simple tune download or replacement of a module.
at one time these transmissions had high failure rate but land rover identified this thru a batch and replaced them on a case by case basis thru V.I.N. not all of these trucks were affected but the few were adressed.
your best bet would be to bring it to the dealer and let'em diagnose it.
btw.. they are not serviceable, that is they come with lifetime fluid which is to be replaced every 100,000 miles or 10 years, they have a strainer but no filter and use a special mineral oil about 30 bucks a pint.
