    89 RR starting/electrical problem

Yesterday I go out to start the Rover. I turned the Ing. switch on and just for a moment the starter tried to turn over then everything went dead. No dash lights, do dome light, no sound. I pop the hood and began to check around with my test light. One end of the test light was connected to the battery negative post. I happened to touch the test light probe to the engine manifold and the light came on. I then touched the valve cover. The light came on. the same thing happened when I touched the alternator. None of this should be. I am stumped. Could my problem be the Ignition Load Relay? The test light coming when I touch the engine bothers me. Any help will appreciated.

It sounds like your ground terminal on your battery is dirty / corroded. I would pull both terminals, clean them good, then I suspect all will be well.

    Hope that helps,
