1961 Series IIA, SWB
2.25L petrol, 4-cylinder, ex-military engine
Auxiliary tank (mounted on chassis but not hooked up)
4-Speed, with Over Drive, Locking Hubs
Frame replaced about 1994 (sourced from Rovers North, it’s solid, no rust)
Rear Bed reinforced in 1994
Front Fenders Upgraded to D90, 1994
Cooper Technica Head Rebuilt about 1998
Added separate oil/gas/temp gauges.
Odometer does not reflect actual mileage (but works)
Driven regularly until 2006.
Transmission pulled and repaired 2006 ... Then I ran out of time.
Known/questionable items:
Had trouble trying to change the rear main seal (I think I got it... but
then again, I thought I had time to put this all back together!)
Engine always had a little blow by so, even though it ran well the last time I had it on the road (2006), the rings are probably worn
Rust on rear door frame
Original gauges (except mechanicals) don't work.
Wire Harness was replaced 1994 but was modified (it works though)
Other stuff:
I've owned this Rover since about 1994.
Title is clean
Lots of additional parts – all from Rovers North
New front leaf springs sitting in the back
Why am I selling it? I have not had time to put this back together since 2006. So half a decade later, I've decided that I either have to pay someone to get this running this summer OR someone else needs to give my Rover a better home!
So here is my plan... Until June 9, 2011, my 88 is up for sale with all parts, "As-Is", for $4800, firm. If no one purchases this by June 9, 2011, I guess I will cancel this posting and have my local mechanic pull the engine... After all, if I've gone this far, I might as well get the rest improved too... so I'll have him rebuild the engine before putting all the pieces back together... yes, all the parts will come from Rovers North.
Location: near Youngstown, Ohio (10 miles from I80 at the Ohio/PA border).
Vehicle is now posted on ebay motors and local... so it is subject to prior sale.
