    Default bonnet not locking. 1967 nada

    just got my land rover. open bonnet and now can not get it to lock down

    any ideas or directions would be great

    picture of the land rover coming in a few days

    serial number. 34300211. A

    Hi Josh,

    While you're taking pictures... you may want to snap a few of the bonnet latch & latching pin. There might be an easily observable issue.

    Also, I ran your serial number through "Calvin" and the findings are below. Do they line up with your vehicle/history? I'm confused by the suffix "A" on a '67

    Lubricate all the latch components thoroughly. I have to do this now and then to keep mine working.

    I like spray-can white lithium grease. Good for door latches too.

    Also - here is a picture of the actual mechanism behind the strike plate. Notice (red arrow) that there is also an additional collar/latch that closes on the tip of the hood pin. That pin extends out beyond the spring retainer when it hits the striker plate, exposing a narrower neck and the head of the pin should get captured by the collar/latch that the red arrow points to. The pin may need to be unscrewed/extended so it can be choked/retained by the collar.

    A few other observations:

    1) The entire latch assembly seems offset to the right. Check the hood's alignment and hinges. Likely not a big deal and within normal tolerance. Note - if you do want to move the latch/strike assembly, it needs to be accessed/loosened from below. The nuts to the right and left of the strike plate in your pictures are tack welded in place.

    2) With the hood open - press the latch that the red arrow points to in darbsclt's picture and make sure the collar (seen in mine) is snapping out. You can then reset it by reaching down and using the hood/open rod reached through the front grill.

    yesterday took apart, and cleaned over night Part was jammed . fix jam, reinstalled, and all is now workings
