Default New generator but charge light blinks now

Just replaced my original C40 generator with a new (remanufactured) C40 generator (haven't upgraded to alternator yet) on my '66 IIa. After getting it all set up, I turn the key, the yellow charge light comes on but, once I start it up, the light stays on and blinks. It doesn't go completely out between blinks. It goes yellow, bright yellow, yellow, etc. I didn't run it very long, out of fear I was going to cook something.

I'm still running a stock set up with positive earth. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with the new generator or if I have a reversed polarity issue (positive earth set up and negative earthed generator). I'm not even sure if that's possible.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

To polarize the generator--pay attention to the links at the bottom of the following page:
