Changed the transmission oil in the DEf 90 recently to Amsoil MTF.
What a difference !! Selects very well and NO notches on 2nd gear, as before with ATF.

Is ATF for auto transmission only or can I use MTF on my 97 D90, is your D90 automatic or stick ?
Jorge,
My 90 is 5 speed manual, MTF is for Manual trans. ATF is for automatics.
Up to now I have used ATF on my 5 speeds also. Now, it is time to rethink this strategy.

LT77 manual gearboxes should have ATF Dexron II oil.
Land Rover always specified using ATF in the LT77 and R380 5 speed manual gearboxes, as well as always using it in all the auto boxes. Amsoil is one a few that have recently formulated a gearbox oil specifically for manual transmissions, and the point Les is making is that using it improved his shifting. Land Rover hasn't come out with any directive telling owners of LT77 and R380 gearboxes to use an MTF formulation as yet.
My only concern would be the internal oil pump on these two gearboxes. Unlike most conventional manual gearboxes that get lubed by splash, the two Land Rover boxes have a forced oil circulation by way of an internal oil pump.
what oil should I run in my Lt95?
i too am interested in the oil for an lt95?
I currently have 90wt in there and there does not seem to be any problems. Of course that could change if ive got the wrong stuff...
Landrover (NA), published a tech buletin ( Buletin # 007, CDS Ref L8462bu Dated 29-03-2000) detailing post WA> VINs all Range Rover, Discovery (1 and II) and Defender manual gearboxes were fitted with Texaco MTF from the assembly line.
This also details that it would benefit earlier manual transmissions, if applyed on a full trans. oil change.
My R380 dates from 97 and is appreciably easier on shift changes, just thought others might benefit from my experience.

It strikes me as odd, that Land Rover North America would issue a tech bulletin in March of 2000 on a transmission that hadn't been imported to the US since 1995 in the Defender, 1996 (and a VERY few in 1997) in the Discovery and never in a Range Rover or Discovery Series 2. If anything it may have been a regurgitation of something generated in the UK. My 110 was dealer serviced in 2001, just prior to my getting it, and the service report indicates 8 quarts Dexron ATF. I guess Miami didn't get that memo.
I've always used ATF in my LT95. EP80/90 woud be too thick when cold.
