Thread: Problem with Upper Defender Door Hinge on Series III

Default Problem with Upper Defender Door Hinge on Series III

I acquired Defender door hinges and mirrors from our hosts to install on my '72 Series III. However, the upper hinge fouls the galvanized capping on top edge of the lower door half. The Defender hinge is significantly wider than my Series III hinge. Also the mirror mounting bolts are too far apart to make drilling my Series III hinges practical. I thought of grinding off the interfering piece of capping, but this would be another place to rust. I will try to attach photo of Series III hinge in place. Anyone run into this situation before?

Why not grind off a bit of the hinge? It looks like it would only be a little bit of material.

    No it doesn't.

The LOWER hinge fouls the galvanized capping.

How do you anticipate attaching the Defender mirror to that hinge?
