hey everyone, i in the process of rebuilding my 69 bugeye and the rear diff pan is shot, i ground it off and looked for the pipe end cap. my dad knows a guy who works for a company that lays gas lines and he made this up for free. will this work alright. the original has the grove in it and i assume it is there to help the oil get slung on all the parts. this pan is much larger (also much heavier), do you think i have to worry about anthing. this rover will never be ******** off roader so im not worried about the extra overhang. also im doing this rebuild and im on a budget, i would rather have something more appealing but it was free so i can't complain there
Sewer Cap diff pan ok?

That is huge!!
I would be concerned about the gear oil when going up a hill running to the back of that cover and not making contact with the ring gear and not slinging oil to the pinion.
you are right about the shape of a diff cover! they are like that so when you do go up a steep hill or are low on fluid it channels the oil to the pinion via the ring gear and keeps the diff lubed.
If you live in the flats I say go for it!Comment

Hey jeff do you have a website or somewhere where you could point me?
for 25 bucks i think id rather that design.
I actually live on a hill so i think i might have to change the design a bit, although the cap is much larger than it needs to be i think i could probally shave an inch or more off with a torch after some carefull measuring, this would keep the oil closer to the gears.
Thanks everyone for your replies, and i had considered a smiley face, not a monkeys *ss though.Comment

You need something like this for 8" pipe. Find a local plumbing supply place and they should be able to get you one.Comment

Since the original is stamped steel welded on and you'll need to weld a new one on, why couldn't you buy of of thesehttp://www.ebay.com/itm/GMC-Buick-Ch...sories&vxp=mtr

I don't think you will find a pipe cap for $25, but McMaster has them for $65. Here is a link w/ drawing...
