Yes the extra thickness was something I overlooked. Not really a issue on the front where I have ser III hubs, the studs are almost flush with the outer face of the lug nut. The rear is another story. Looks like someone put ser II-IIa hubs on it at some point. These studs only engage the lug nuts 1/2 to 3/4 of the way (yes they do appear to be different lengths). These are one heavy duty rim and yes they are 7". I also like the additional raised bump in the rim on the inside of both beads, should help keep the beads seated at low pressure.

The spares are also a better design than the Jackman white spokes.

I use them on my 1959 88. It's what was available at the time when I switched out the 15" original rims.

Did you change out the studs for the lug nuts? If not what size lug nuts are you running and how much engagement do they have on the threads?

          Thanks!

I think there are three different part numbers for lug nuts. A combination of two different od's and two different size studs. I have both sizes of the 1 1/16"(?) lug nuts and are wondering if the ser II / early IIa lug nuts that are smaller seat into the rim better and engage more threads.

The downside with the extra thickness is that the wheel studs are a bit short which does create a safety concern. If you regularly check your wheel nuts then no problem, but there has been a few accidents in England where the wheels have come off from lack of maintenance. I'd have to check the set in the garage but I'm sure that they are 7" wide.

Actually they are, they match both of my 95 RRC Spare rims exactly.

                  95 spare

Someone sold your alloy spare and replaced it with the steel. They always had allow spares

ON both of my 95 RRC's? That's kind of odd don't you think? I also have several friends with 95 RRC's, I'll check with them. ANyway, really does not matter, I have several steel spares that came from 95 RRC's (all SWB's) that I want to try after seeing the prig picture I posted.

I stand a 100% behind what I wrote about the Disco steel rims. Your consistently writing "spare rims", now that rings a bell with my 1997 Disco which has deep dish alloys and the "spare rim" is the Disco steel.

Was it a means for LR to save money by giving the steel rim for a spare or was the alloy spare a cost option, who knows but there is truth in what both of us are saying.

So back to some nuts and bolts type questions. I'm guessing my answer is to swap out all my lug nuts/studs for the Defender ones?!? This should solve the length issue I have with not enough thread engagement on the series lugs/studs with RR/disco wheels.

Interesting. I am going over today to pick up the steel wheel and mount to see what kind of clearance and stud length issues I have. This may be more involved than I originally thought.
