    2.6 engine

    Hey Guys,

What can you tell me about properly maintaining the Rover 2.6 engine? My Shorland MKIII shows up this weekend and I have heard the engines like to be services regularly. How so?

    Please school me!

Oil changes and type of oil are important with these. While I had my 2.6 Series III, I changed oil at the season changes, every three months, regardless of miles travelled. Also I used 10-40 in the cold months and 20-50 in the warm months. This practice kept things running smooth and condensation issues under control. At every oil change I cleaned the intake filter and checked the ignition system (cap, wires, plugs) and looked over the fuel system. Pretty much stuff that should be done on any vehicle, but is usually put off. I'm sure others have different ideas, but this worked for me.

Not particularly different or unique. They like oil so check regularly, I've found mine precipitously low several times when I felt like I had just filled it. Adjust the valves as specified- the exhaust are a pita to do as the wing and manifold have to come off. Keep up on those ive been told in particular. Keep the stromberg diaphragm filled with oil. It's not really any different than the 2.25 other than being more difficult to work on and having more cylinders. I'm not as learned as others may be but if I can keep it running then anyone can. You are probably aware already of the healthy appetite that the extra 15hp demands.

              Derek,

Thanks for the pix. I'm looking forward to having a "cabbie" in it.

No interior " traxmark " upholstery? Mine, in sad shape, has the tan vinyl with foam insulation backing. Without it, you can not touch it after it sits in the sun, let alone drive it when temps hit 100 deg. I have been thinking of removing it and spraying snakeskin brand insulation coating or bed liner.....
