Check these things:
An engine continues to run when the ignition is shut off because it is still receiving spark and fuel.
Spark generally comes from carbon in the combustion chamber that continues to glow and provides a source of ignition. It can also occur from timing advanced too far.
Fuel is generally supplied from and idle setting too high.
With commercially available fuel, I have not seen engine run-on caused by too low of octane, but depending on region and age of fuel, things vary.
Good luck!

Dieseling
Hello there,
Ref this issue, both Zenith and Weber offer a solenoid to shut the air/fuel down when the ignition is turned off. The "power end of the solenoid is connected to the coil, so when you turn the key off, the solenois automatically closes the air way.
So far, the success rate for both carbs. has been good.

Jim,
What kind of carb do you have?
We keep the Weber one in stock, I think I may have a used Zenith one available (tested of course).

remove some carbon
you can take off the air filter, hold the throttle open and slowly pour some water down the carb, making sure you keep enough throttle to keep it running. Helps blow out the carbon that may be the problem.1968 battlefield ambulance/camper
