    Help with Parts Identification

Hello, I have just bought a 1961 Series 2 (dream realized) which has been converted to negative earth. I am slowly going through fluid changes and fixing various key items (chassis is somewhere on that list)!

I am replacing the non stock and poorly functioning choke with one I bought from John Craddock UK. When I took the old non connected choke out, on the engine side I found 2 holes with the following items attached, which at some point both had a choke running through. The housing shown is in the manual, but I cannot find a description of its purpose? The other item appears electrical in nature and I cannot determine what it was.

Any help would be great - I think at least the bracket in the photo is original, the electrical fitting I am not sure. Photo attached.

My primary aim is install the new part and having a functioning choke. An additional aim would be to do it correctly using the parts remaining as they were intended (assuming that they are still needed).

    Thanks.

There were a couple of different types of "cold start'" switches used on the early Series. Power was supplied to the 'cold start' bulb when the ignition was 'on', but the ground for the light was supplied by the combination of a switch on the choke cable and a switch on the cylinder head. When the choke cable was pulled, contacts closed in the cable operated switch. When the engine warmed up, contacts closed in a heat activated "otter switch" located in the cylinder head, grounding the circuit and lighting the 'cold start' lamp. This was a 'hey dummy' light r. to remind you the choke was still pulled and not required.

Got it, many thanks. I appear to have three versions of old choke set ups! (None of them work!) I am planning to revert back this weekend with the. more original part I bought from John Craddock UK>

      Thanks again.
