    Series IIA leaking brake fluid

    I have a Series IIA 88 that I just replaced the brake and clutch master cylinder on. Clutch works fine. When I apply brake pressure, I get no pressure until after @ 3 pumps of the pedal. After pumping the brakes, brake fluid is bubbling out of a pinhole in the top of the reservoir cap. Is this just because the system has not been bled yet?

    I have not bled the brake system yet because I cannot get the wheel cylinders free and the bleed screws on both rear tires have already been sheared off. I also notice small amounts of fluid around the connections on the new master cylinder even though they seem tight.

    As far as bleeding the system, is my only option to grind the wheel cylinders off and replace everything? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Air = Pumps

    Sounds like air in the lines. The bubbling at the cap is probably due to the pressure changes. The fluid at the master cylinder is due to a poor connection. Try removing it and making sure everything is clean and then refit it tight.

    As for the brakes, you've got to get the air out any way you can. If you can't get the bleed screws free then just move up the system a bit. If you are lucky, there is brake fluid in the cylinders and lines *after where you are bleeding from* but in the end you really will need to bleed the brakes from the cylinders to be sure that you've got the system bled free.

    Long story short, you need to get the bleed screws to open up. May that be from soaking in PB or the like (and light tapping on the breed screws) for a week or so, or replacing the wheel cylinders. You will need to try an easy out to get the old bleed screws out.

    Soak all of your joints while you are at it, so that you can undo the joints if you need to start replacing brake lines to get a new wheel cylinder in. It helps.
