    Wolf Wheel Question

Is anyone using the Wolf wheels RN part number PLW216 on a series? They are 16x6.5 with a 2.75" offset. I have a set of 235/85/16s and need some wheels to put them on. Also, does anyone know if these are for tubes or tubeless? Thanks!

    Wolf Wheels

I've got the same size tires mounted on the Wolf wheels (67 IIA), love the wheels. Purchased from our host - painted with Krylon paint - they look great after 2+ years. I'll try and post up a picture if you are interested.

    cheers,
    chris

IMO it looks goofy. The wheel is too big for the Series. I can post a picture of stock and Wolf if you like. Side by side the stock wheels are way better unless you want that 70's Ford Bronco look.

1" wider looks goofy? They are perfect for 235/85-16's, the modern replacement for the 7.50-16 which was stock.

          This looks like a Bronco???

the wheels are great, much stronger than the original ones.

Any comments on the offset of 2 3/4"? I know that is quite a bit more than stock and other wolf wheels. Also, anyone know if these are for tubes or not? Thanks

You might want longer studs IIRC. That is the only issue I can think of. They look a little odd on a SWB to purists but 6.00 16s etc look odd on SWBs to most other people nowadays.

I ran wolf wheels on my 88. The early II & IIa studs (1/2" OD I believe) are too short and the lug nut doesn't seat very wheel in the wheel. I upgraded the studs to the larger rover size (can't remember the diameter off the top of my head) and the studs were ~1/4" too short. The lugs nuts fit well in the wheel so it centered better than the older studs, though. I recall reading a thread on some rover BB that said the new, large diameter studs are too short on series rigs b/c wolf wheels are meant for Defenders & they use disc brakes. Land Rover shortened the stud length since no brake drum was used anymore. Not sure if this true...

any suggestions on where to obtain longer studs to fit. Isn't there some law about the minimum distance the studs could protrude?

There was a post on this a while ago- I think it should still be available if you search.

There is no law as far as I know that has to do with studs prodruding- the problem is they don't protrude they leave a portion of the inside of the nut exposed. This is because the wheel itself is thicker.

Does anyone know what a wolf wheel weighs vs. a stock wheel? I have never bent a stock wheel, so if they are that much thicker it seems to me that all you are doing is adding unsprung weight...

I'm about to upgrade the studs to my Dormobile to fit some wolf wheels. Here's a link I found a while ago:

I haven't ordered from them yet, but plan to do so soon. I'm not sure of the weight of my wheels (running 16 x 6.5 wheels), but I remember them being heavy without the tire.

the wolf wheels weigh a lot, I bought 4 recently and they came in two boxes, marked with a warning label saying over 70 lbs, that means 35lbs or more per rim.
