My 76 Series III has the hole in the bumper and the crank. I've tried it once and thought I was going to need an ambulance. Needless to say, it didn't work out to well for me. I haven't tried it since but my Rover has issues, as do most, so I'm sure that it might come around eventually.

That's why Models T & A had a manual retard lever on the steering wheel.
If your timing is set correctly, there is enuf advancee to kick back before going over the hump. That's why you always pull UP on the crank. Push down, and you're laible to get busted knuckles.Comment

I have only tried it for kicks twice and been unsuccesful. My engines are in good tune and I am not a small guy. Must be something wrong with my technique. Below freezing cranking is impressive. I had a Husquvarna 250 CR growing up that had a kick start that would maim you if not careful. I would hate to see the 2.25 kickback with thumb wrapped around handle.Comment

Leafsprung, I knew about the early Range Rovers in England, but I've never had a brochure with the Series III crank hole in the bumper. And the US Series III's I've been around have not had that crank hole. However, I stand corrected!

Series 3
Were both learning, Ive never seen a stock series truck without the crank hole. Ive had a dozen or so SIIIs and worked on dozens more. Have never seen one without a crank hole. Interesting. If youve got pics, Id love to see em.

The only series truck I can think of that doesnt have the crank hole in the bumper is the SIIA/SIIB FC they have that little tab underneath for the crank.Last edited by leafsprung; 01-15-2008, 07:43 PM.Comment
