I made a simple u bracket and mounted it on the right side of the motor where there are four holes foe the old gen. I went to napa and found a belt. It was very easy with no batt in the way.
Who's done a total 24v to 12v conversion?

^^ I was just looking at that myself, funny. My wiring diagram only shows one brown wire, but I have two.
The two brown wires connect to different terminals on the alternator. The larger brown wire should be for the alternator output to the positive side of the solenoid. The small brown wire should be for the alternator "sense" terminal to the positive side of the solenoid. The brown & yellow wire goes to the ignition warning light.Comment

So one wire is for the Charge warning light, one is for the charging the battery, so what's the third (attached to S post on alternator, I think) for exciting alternator? If it is an exciting wire can't the charge wire just be jumped to the S post from the "+" post on the alternator and do away with the third wire?Walker

Heck, and mine is even more different since it was a radio truck. I've got a whole bundle of wires going into my stock 90amp generator! It's making my head hurt thinking about it. I leave for vacation tomorrow in the Disco so poor Series is gonna have to wait his turn.1966 IIa - ex-MOD, ex-FFR, ex-24v

I won't guarrantee this is the naswer but if your truck has been converted to a higher amp alternator then adding a second wire to the existing harness to make up current carrying capacity is a common trick rather than replacing them entirely with a single heavier gauge piece.Comment

Here are some pics of what I am working with since the FFR trucks seem to be quite a bit different.

Attached is the stock wiring diagram that shows all the wiring to the generator and generator/shunt panel. Scratching my head with what to do to hook up an alternator since I've got all these extra wires.
I'm back from vacation and figured I'd pick back up on this before it gets too cold to do much.1966 IIa - ex-MOD, ex-FFR, ex-24v

I removed all of the wiring for the gen. and shunt panel. My alternator is the single wire kind - so all I had to run was a wire from the alt. to the solenoid.Comment
