What is the purpose of this odd, home-made crossmember shown in the pics below? (The one made of steel channel, not the factory one!)

I just ordered a brake master cylinder rebuild kit and a complete exhaust from the manifold back.

that's why mine hibernates in the winter. along with my FJ (I know that's a little ridiculous)

The chassis crossmember has not even been "streamlined" by offroad obstacles.

This is a few pics of the Land Rover my Grandmother just gave me. It has been siting for years and I plan to go thru it and make it as clean as my wallet will allow.

Id pull up the shag carpet and see if the footwells are rusted. Looks like a pretty clean solid truck already congrats and good luck!
