    westcoastkevin,
what vehicle are you working on? Backing plates are different than the SIIa or SIII's I've worked on.
This assembly work begs a question. The bearings in the hub are lubricated with the gear oil in the swivel pin housing. Should they be packed with grease also?
    Good looking work!!

What you have there is what is known in maritime circles as a "pipe berth".

I assume that is because it is made of pipes?

I believe Kevin's truck is a 1951 Series I 80". I too, grease the hub bearings on installation. I figure the grease and oil would always mix....

Today we hauled 20 bags of mulch in the Kalahari Disco, mounted the replacement hi-amp Delco alternator on the wife's V8 109 and removed the 88" tub from an old trailer start the rebody on my rolled SIII 88.

Oil change w/ zinc additive, new cap, rotor and plugs, valve adjustment, greased my GBR bushings, topped off the tranny oil, and swapped out the speedo for another one I had laying around. My old pal is happier than ever before.

Next on the list is either the winch or soft top and tailgate.

Spring hit Texas full force yesterday, it was 80 degrees outside.

Based on this I got the Landy into summer mode - rolled up the sides and took the doors off. Nothing like a little additional air conditioning.

                bulkhead

Not today, but recently removed the bulkhead from my 1959 88 pickup to get it galvanized (along with the core support and other metal bits). The real project is installing a new wiring harness but I could not pass up the opportunity to protect this near flawless bulkhead while I had so much of the front end off. I did not have to cut, grind or drill a single bolt. All eight of the fine thread hinge bolts came loose without any effort--or PB Blaster.

Bulkhead and other bits are getting chemical stripped in Portland. I'll have them back in about 2 weeks and then it is off to the galvanizer!

I will admit to some envy for you guys with ready to drive rigs. I love the stories of the spring drives.

Today, I got a few things done.
I got the correct number of shims in place to set the bearings for the output shaft in the transfer case.
I got the bell housing on my gearbox and got the selector levers in place..
I stripped my clutch withdrawal housings to choose the best one to build up.
I placed an order for some ignition system parts.
                      ... It never ends....

Suspect I broke a rear halfshaft pulling away from a stop sign at the grocery store. That must have been one seriously fatigued shaft. I will have to pull the shafts and confirm.

Installed my home built tow hitch. I did not want to weld on my galvy chassi so I built my own bolted version.

                                Productivity

I was no where as productive as you guys. I took my 109 to the local park and slept in the back of it to avoid the 2 day old baby who kept crying. I was a slacker!
