If you're only at the paint-stripping stage, why worry about puting the mirrors on now?
What did you do to your Rover today?

Went to my storage garage in Ocean Beach to clean some stuff out and thought, "I REALLY got to get this one going!" If I did get it going then even with tax and insurance I would still be saving $$$ because I wouldn't have to rent that garage anymore!!
So hopefully I will start working on that '58 soon!

...because military vehicles were usually painted immediately & often after rolling off the assembly line. Stripping the military-applied paint often reveals factory paint in exceptionally good condition for its age. So, roverlandpark is giving his vehicle a reverse paint job. Hopefully we'll see some photos soon.Comment

Started fitting the right side footwell, still waiting for the left side lower door post before I can start on that side. I also discovered you can never have too many clamps and never have that one clamp the would make everything sooooo much easier. How come dumb stuff always seems so smart when your doing it?

After dinner I test fitted the new Pangolin winch bumper and Warn 8274 winch to my SIII 109. I have to pick up a couple of slightly longer winch bolts and complete the winch wiring to test it.

I couldn't stand that there were twelve layers of paint flaking on the garage floor. With the paint stripped back, I'll have a more tidy looking vehicle to drive around for the next few months as I get more parts together for the restoration. Also, the Lightweight had only one mirror and it and the rear-view mirror were shot. I'm not complaining, I like finding excuses to buy parts...1979 Land Rover Half-Ton GSComment

rover fixing
Door seals, rebuilt injectors installed, oil change , Maradyne heater, cut 1/4 rubber floor mats, built new airbox to eliminate oil bath, relocated one battery under seat, built cables to run two batteries in parallel, removed top for headliner,
All this wasn't done today but recently

Finished removing rear axle from '97 Disco this evening. Took care of front this past weekend. Taking both to welder to remove coil fixings for a parabolic set up. Flip, my retired pipe welder and a real magician, will work on finishing mounts for rebuilt Defender 200tdi, new r380 (short bell housing), and the Disco's lt230. Getting closer...
It's taken a long time to get to this point.Comment

Look for a separate post on Sunday. With the military paint gone, I've been over the body several times. There are lots and lots of issues to be addressed and there will be several photos.1979 Land Rover Half-Ton GSComment

Recently: Door seals, worked through a heater power issue, and clutch issue.
Last Night: Installed Belleview Winch - works but needs new cable and probably disassembly and cleaning.
Today: 5 Mile Pass. Navigated hills, mud, snow and rocks.
It was a GOOD day!1960 88" SII Pliny the Elder
