    stereo in a series?

I want to put a stereo in my series 2a, i know they werent a stock item, but i cant stand driving without some music playing. My thing is though, that i cant figure out a good place to mout it, i was thinking under the dash in front of my knee to the left of the hand throttle, but id like to see where others have mounted them. so anyone have pics, or can tell me their ideas?

      Tuffy box

i second the idea. A tuffy box is best.
If you are handy, jc whitney sells a over head thing designed for jeeps that has speakers and it fits well above your head, but with mild off roading a radio will tear it to shreds, stick with the tuffy box.... or the smittybuilt one for half the $$$.

Here's another way to go. It's loud and it tucks away nicely without having to find a home for a big radio and speakers.

                  x2 on that.

Skip it, Series trucks shouldn't have radios/stereos (does not include 2-way radios). There. I said it.

Listen to the rattles, the exhaust leak, the wind & tire noise, etc.

Just my opinion; feel free to ignore it.

ps. don't you guys find that the Tuffy boxes take up the space where your (my) right knee goes while driving (I'm tall) ? (would be left knee for RHD trucks, I suppose).

                  Regards, Andrew

That will work in a S3, however the original poster has a 2a, totally different.

On the wife's SIIA 109 I mounted the radio in a box mounted to the bulkhead behind the center seat. You won't have as much room in an 88.... The CD doesn't really work at the angle it is mounted, but we usually use the ipod or Sirius radio plugged into the audio input jack anyway. It can be a pia as you need to fold down the seat to access the controls, and take your eyes off the road, but once you remember the programmed buttons it is no big deal.

One set of speakers are mounted in the Defender door panels, the other set is mounted to the flange where the top bolts to the side panels.

I used marine quality radio and speakers for a bit of weather resistance. Some dynamat in the doors and seat box helped with noise reduction.

I did this. Here are a few photos of it, finished. Note the small module above the guage cluster. It is the power switch. The amp is tucked behind the guage cluster panel. I have the speakers just sitting where you see them. My Ipod plugs into the input wire dangling below the steering wheel. I have velcro stuck to the dash, and the back of my Ipod, so I can just stick it up there while I drive. That way, I only have to use one hand to operate it.

It is not the greatest sound, but it is waterproof and not as invasive as other options. If I ever sell it, I don't have any permanent remains of this system.

When you pull up to a traffic light, and the guy next you on a GoldWing has his stereo on; that's what it sounds like. Not a great sound, but it is loud enough to feed my head with some tunes.

It works for me, since with the top off, you get a lot of road noise, etc. I am not in the business of Hi-Fi, whilst driving around in my Series.
