8000# Pound lb 12V DC Motor WARN Winch 38631 M8274-50 have been been successfully mounted on several Series IIAs
Was your question regarding the appropriateness of of the 8000# Pound lb 12V DC Motor WARN Winch 38631 M8274-50 for the Series IIA? Or how to fabricate, or acquire, the necessary plate/bumper?
Not exactly your winch, but I did just mount a Warn on my III using this mount: http://amzn.to/ch1BVW
I'd love to move up to a Pangolin bumper some day, but in the mean time, I pulled the stock-ish bumper off the front of my III. That mount lined up exactly with the bolt holes on the frame horns so I got some longer bolts and sandwiched the mount b/t the bumper and the horns. So far it has worked quite well.
Are you sure that Ike's precludes the use of the hand crank? I wouldn't be surprised if you could still get it through the fairlead and under the winch spool. Anybody know?
Edit: I went out and looked at my 8247 and agree that's it not likely that the hank crank could be used through the fairlead.
Nick's mount won't work for an 8274 because it needs a foot forward mount. I have a universal Warn mount that is foot forward. I can get the hand crank in but it is tight against the mount and you are likely to bust your knuckles.
It hasn't been mentioned, but the bumper with winch mount that Ike sells is WAY WAY thicker than the stock bumper... ie you can actually hit things without bending your bumper..
That picture isn't correct but pretty sure that is what I have.
And as mentioned Ike's bumper is stronger, mine driver's side is folded in with a crease and has had to be pulled out several times. Some day I'll call Ike....
Just remember the energy from hitting something goes somewhere. Too stiff a bumper and you end up bending the frame. I think rover knew what they were doing.
