Found a nice Series 1 88" for sale and am thinking about buying it. I have a 58 MGA that Ill be selling since Ive kind of lost interest in that and want to build a nice Series to go with my D1. Is it blasphemous to build a S1? By build, I mean a small diesel, stronger axles, etc?

Modifications - The latest from Tim Cooper... - I had the pleasure of visiting with Tim Cooper from Placerville, CA, who is reknowned on the West Coast for doing some seriously extreme modifications to Rovers. He's famous for doing, among other things, a Series II with a Cummins B9 diesel. His current ride is amazing....Comment

I love my 86. 2.5 NA diesel, soft top, IIa axles. Great commuter rig and fun on moderate trails.
And if you don't buy it, feel free to pm the details on it. I know somebody that needs one of those.'55 SI 86Comment

I need a 2.0 motor (or as many parts as I can get), so if you do ditch it, please keep me in mind!Comment

A ser1 rig is just like buying any vintage L/R. Mileage is irrelevant, just have to have the parts to work with in decent shape to start. A series 1 does have some differences, but, later ones are better for this than earlier as designs changed a bit for the first few years. I put in a 2.25 in a ser1,88" and the power is about perfect, however, I drive with gears, not the gas pedal.
Somethings you can't avoid, like body panels and various original bits of a 2 can be adapted onto the 1. I love mine and daily it as well.
Original no - but still mechanically all L/R. I couldn't care less if someone doesn't like it. I didn't build it for them.Comment
