    winch Mounts

    I have an electric winch for my SIII 88. It was mounted recessed down between the frame horns on a plate that looks like came with it. I have been having a little trouble with my starter and this unit blocked the ability to use my crank handle. Can someone post some picture of mounts for winches that do not obstruct using the crank handle?

    home built mount

    I wanted to be able to use the handle on ours, the easiest way to turn the engine when setting the valves. Jim

      Jim,
      thanks, looks like what 3/16" plate welded as an angle to the width of the frame? The crank is very handy for valves, ect that's why i want to make it useable.

          channel

          It is a piece of wide channel and it is tied into the bottom of the frame too, not just the bolts.

                Yea Jim I'd like to see some more pic's also. How did you tie it into the bottom of the frame, pics of that would be good also.

                  my solution

                  I have a Warn 8274 plopped between the frame rails on one of Pangolin's bumpers. I wanted the ability to turn the motor with the crank so I did this;
                  Cut the crank hole from my old bumper, bent it and re-enforced it, bolted it to the underside of my new bumper.
                  I also had to lengthen my crank to clear the fairlead. I did this by cutting a section from an old one and splicing it in the middle of my "good" one.

                    pretty snazzy idea! I also believe Ike mentioned that he makes winch bumpers with the retained ability to use the crank, but that there were no pictures on his site at the moment. I wonder if his are of a similar design.

                        I just welded in a 2" receiver in line with the crank. Slightly offset in the bumper but it works fine and gives me an option to mount receiver accessories.
