Old willys jeeps with a similar cam and lever design use a mixture called "knuckle butter"......
It's really just a mix of gear oil and grease.... Google it..
I have used it for years and it works great...
I have also been told synth great oil is the way to go....

For many years, in addition to running a steel foundry here in CT, I represented a large British steel foundry in the US, located in Burton on Trent. I also spent a good deal of time in Sheffield doing developement work. I had a desk in Burton, although I was only there 10 days or so each quarter. Directly across the road was the main Bass Ale brewery. Sadly, to the south of the Bass plant was the largest Land Rover breakers yard I've come accross. Just up the road from Bass, to the north, was the plant that made Marmite, which used the waste from Bass. No one ever complained about the odor from the foundry because the Marmite odor in the air was worse.
