    what is this switch for??

    I have 1973 Ser 3 88,
There is a rocker type switch on the dashboard, in the center behind the area where the cig. lighter and flasher switch are located. The switch can only be seen if one looks behind this area of the dash, it is not seen looking at the front of the dash. It does appear to be a factory switch.

Also, in the engine compartment, there is porcelain type resister about 1 1/2" long,(similar to the ones used with ign coils.a little smaller) however there is also one mounted near the ign coil. (not connected),
The resister I am asking about is attached to the choke cable, and has a white wires, blue stripes connected. What circuit is this for?

    Thanks,
    david

I'm not sure where you mean the toggle is- but does it look like the photo in this thread? I wasn't sure what this was at the time : http://www.roversnorth.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=10460

The "resistor" attached to the choke cable is the switch that turns on the "choke" lamp on the instrument panel. It's item #41 on this wiring diagram and should have a whtie/blue wire attached to one side and a black wire to the other.

The switch behind the dash tray is not a factory installation, but a previous-owner installation. It could do anything (or nothing). Where do the wires go? By its concealed placement, I'd suspect that a PO used it as some sort of immobilization switch, for example, to break the primary circuit to the coil or something similar.

Thanks Mark...that switch sure looks factory, its not really hidden, just mounted on the cover area for where the gauges would go.
I have included a picture..dont know how to highlight the switch, but its there.

Which light is the choke light????

Definitely not a factory switch, from its discrete placement, I would guess a kill switch as well.

It's actually labeled "cold start"---The amber light inside the speedometer at the 5:00 position.

That switch does look tidy. I'll have a peek in the SIII optional parts book and see if it shows anything there. That aux switch panel in the center of the dash was an optional part so it should show if a factory switch was located there. I doubt that there was one--it's kind of a lousy place to put a switch because anything sliding around in that dash tray can activate the switch. I almost burned my rover down when a stray "diesel fuel only" tag I had put in that tray shorted out a previous-owner-installed cigarette lighter back there.

Whereas I see all the factory cutouts for other switches (along with blank-off plates) there are none located in the place where your switch is located:

NO! its not...the Nitrous Boost switch is located in the switch cluster with the seat warmer, and auto traction control.
