If the splines are iffy, it's generally advisable to change the clutch and mainshaft together, which will run the north side of $500.
I've just gone through one, replaced all shims to bring the endfloat under .005", replaced the mainshaft and new clutch, yours for $800. I'll even loan you the special socket to get the 'castle sorta nut' off.
