Funny you mention Firestone, as I saw a set today and came back and googled it. What a bizarre tread pattern. I couldn't quite decide if it was truly a better mousetrap or just a gimmick.

Goodyear makes the Wrangler All Terrain "Adventure" in my preferred 215/85 size. It's a lighter duty tire, and of course the name is all wrong, but I might give those a whirl. Interestingly, I have a new Defender on order and that's the tire they build it with.

The tires I'm dying to get a hold of are actually Continental HSO Sand tires, but they aren't available stateside.

The later Range Rovers and early Discovery's had a similar tire if memory serves. I believe it was a Michelin XS or XMS or something like that...

Maybe it was the Camel Trophy Defenders that used the Michelin XCL I'm remembering.

This is Oh Landy, formerly know in the Mendo circle as Chug. I've have him for about 7 years. I am a new Series owner, we purchased "Clare" about a month ago and I am working to install a number of items the previous owner had purchased and not gotten to yet. "Clare" is a RHD 1983 109 Country Wagon, she was imported from England about eight years ago. The story is when imported she was the last of 16 registered 109 Country Wagons on the road. I have installed the RoamerDrive that was NIB along with the new finned Transfercase cover. I am trying to work through the middle-row seat belt installation, as he had purchased the two shoulder belts and the middle lap belt. I will be looking for some photo help confirming where the lower outside angled brace gets installed, the online photos I have found don't really show how close the brace when covering the folding seat lever. I also seem to have the original angled seat belt shoulder brackets behind the C-pillar. It has only one hole though so I am trying to figure out where to mount the retraction mechanism.

LAND-ROVER, late SERIES IIa. This 1971 Land-Rover is the last year of the “all-metal-dash” machines before the Series III Land-Rover debuted later that same year. This Land-Rover was treated to a 6-year restoration by, and for Dare Britannia, Ltd., of Olympia, Washington. We showed it at our first professionally judged Concours d’Elegance (the Forest Grove Concours) where it brought me First in Class. Two years later at our nearest British Field Meet it took another First Place. On a field of exquisitely presented Aston Martins, Bentleys, Jaguars and other premiere British Marques this truck was awarded “Best Debuting Restoration of the Day”. It continues to command top honors wherever and whenever it is shown. In my 55 years of passionate dedication to Correct, Original Land-Rovers, this is our finest (short wheelbase).


This Land-Rover is classed as a short wheelbase DeLuxe Safari Station wagon, with the correct heat-shield roof and four jump seats in the rear cabin.
I plan no further restorations at this time because Dare Britannia is backed up for several years with ongoing client restoration work. The demand is unrelenting. My restorations have brought my Company more than 60 international awards, of which more than half are First Place or better…..far too many to begin enumerate.
I would describe this Land-Rover as not only immaculate but a superlative, brilliant-running machine in every conceivable way. Its road manners are impeccable. It drives and handles precisely like a showroom-fresh example. It performs spectacularly…..astoundingly well. No excuses. ALL parts are Genuine Land-Rover or their exact, precise equivalent. No excuses. The tires will be those of the buyer’s choosing….including new MICHELIN Military all-terrains or AVON Traction Mileages, both being in stock. And both superlative examples of the caliber of tire worthy of the Marque.
