Replaced the leaky pipe to the oil pressure gauge and installed the new ignition lock. Last friday installed the new headlamp switch (with help) - that fixed the running light issue. Friday it goes for its annual "checkup". Wish me luck.
What did you do to your Rover today?

Stickers! I cut out a single color black union jack on a vinyl cutter, along with some silly decals with my truck's nickname. Not so happy with the scale of the words so I'll probably cut again along with some more meaningful labels if I can come up with anything._________________________________________

today i was looking at the right side of the tub with the seat removed, looking at ways to attach a custom built storage box. something that could be bolted in using the existing holes for the seat and the holes along the top inside of the tub. didn't have time to draw up any plans though...
the dimensions are 17"d (at the base) x 38"w x 14"h which yields ~5 cubic feet of secured storage.Comment

today i finished up installing a bench storage box. not incredibly technical, and only took an afternoon to throw together. best part is that i used the two existing bench seat holes and two existing galvy tub railing holes, so i didn't have to drill any new ones and the box is four-point secured.
the dimensions are 17"d (at the base) x 38"w x 14"h which yields ~5 cubic feet of secured storage.
However if it were me, I'd make the following modifications.
- Swap the box and rear seat for the opposite sides of the truck (opposite the steering wheel side).
- Cut 3 inches or however many are needed to make the box flush with the top rail.
- Cut a sheet of ply that will cover the passenger half of the back bay and rest on the box.
- Figure out a quick and dirty way to secure that new piece of ply to the truck. Make an extending piece from that ply that folds out into the passenger front seat area and figure out a support for that. Door hinges or piano hinges work well.
- Go to Ikea and pick up one of their thin futon mattresses.
- Fold it all out, grab a sleeping bag and sleep in your new in-truck-sleeping-platform!
I didn't make a box for mine but seeing yours, I now have a few new ideas floating around to think about. Sleeping in the truck is nice but there is a bit of a head room problem when changing clothes. You get used to it and when its pouring rain outside at the camp site, you won't mind that minor inconvenience. Especially when your buddies tell you about the river that ran through their tents.Comment

tim! when i was designing the box in my head, i was looking at ways to rig up a "loft" for sleeping. didn't think to hinge a double board on top to flip over onto the passenger side! genius!
i made the top rim above the tub to squeeze out some extra cubic inches of storage, but a height reduction for the addition of a loft seems validated!Comment

I'll see if I can't dig up some pictures of my 2x4 and go set up. Not too pretty but it works.Comment

Installed the new fuel pump. Confirmed fuel to the carb. No start and no surprise since she still had the gas in her from 16 years ago. Took the first step easy way and pumped the carb full of stabil. A few hours later we turn the key and she ran smoothly for the first time in 16 years. What a nice sound and a nice milestone.1995 NAS D-90 Soft Top, AA Yellow

Cleaned it out
So it passed its Safety inspection Friday and I got its plates up to date! To commemorate the "event" I took it up into the mountains to check out how the fall colors were coming along. Afterwords I cleaned it out a bit. Over the last few months due to a free flowing oil leak and running light issue I had let the plates expire. While sitting there it had become a bit of a storage unit (slippery slope I know). So I straightened everything up, swept it out, and put other things where they belong (not in the Rover). I think I might just drive it to work all this week.1960 88" SII Pliny the Elder

exhaustive search
I looked under the hood to see if the three nuts that hold the exhaust down pipe to the manifold might be loose, since I was hearing some burbling of exhaust noise, and lo and behold not one but TWO manifold bolts had fallen out. I installed a new exhaust manifold last April so they dropped out sometime this summer, but I felt a little foolish not noticing until now. The empty sockets were right on top there. A couple of stainless bolts and never-seize later, it sounds a lot better! Amazing what a tight fitting exhaust will do for you overall peace of mind.
Also enjoyed taking the Rover to the Flye farm for the All-Metal Dash Weekend. Good to see so many interesting trucks and people, and I picked up some 4" amber turn signal lamps.Tom

"Bear" kept losing battery power; couldn't tell if the Bat was dead or the broken connector on the alt was causing it not to charge. So i finally fixed the alt and then took it to get checked. Bat was on its last leg, but the alt and starter were in good shape
A new battery and she is running like a champ...for nowComment

I have progressively been working my way through the everything that had a rubber seal all of which in the 16 years it sat, degraded and failed. So new clutch and brake master cylinders and new clutch slave and all four wheel cylinders. Given the safety aspect I think I would have replaced them anyway just to know they were good. Interestingly I dug the "failed" fuel pump out of the degreaser today and it pumped. I guess the old fuel had gummed it up and a bath freed the spring and diaphragm. So it will be a back up. After flushing the radiator and refilling, the water pump started a trickle leak at the seal so one coming from our hosts this week. She does idle well and runs at a normal temperature and oil pressure is good. So, perhaps in a week she will actually be ready for the first time on the road since 1994.
It is very gratifying to bit by bit bring her back to life.1995 NAS D-90 Soft Top, AA Yellow
