I drove Red Rover up on top of 1st peak to the look out, watched 3 bull elk and some cows run aroung in a deep valley, then decieded that as the rover coundn't get me down there and the 3 grizzley bears above the elk I decieded not to hike down and shoot an Elk. I did get a nice Blue grouse on the way back down the mountain. Going back this evening for another look see. I love driving the bush roads and trails in the rover it just feels right.1968 Series IIA

So far today: used a pressure washer and some Simply Green to wash and (attempt to) degrease the entire thing, especially undercarriage, frame, drive shafts, etc.
Waiting for everything to dry so I can do a more detailed cleaning on the inside and then apply some rust converter where its needed.
Edited to add:
Applied the rust converter - that stuff is awesome! My intent was to get some underbody stuff taken care of. I discovered it worked cosmetic wonders on all the black painted services too, such as: the gear and e-brake levers, upper dash and seat rails. Anything where the paint had peeled just turned instantly black. I suspect if I thought about high school chemistry I'd get it, but even without the equation, its just neat!
I did tackle some major problem areas. Interestingly, I'm still reasonably sure my frame is galvanized. However, one of my outriggers has some surface rust. I can't quite tell if it was welded on after the fact, or something else is going on. I don't really want to scrutinize it too much least I determine the whole thing is not, in fact, galvanized as the previous owner insisted.Last edited by NickDawson; 09-11-2011, 03:45 PM.Comment

Thanks Mike. After driving it around for over a year, I just can't stand not having an overdrive any more - and I've only been 1400 miles! All my previous Rovers have had a Fairey OD, so I was used to comfortably cruising on the highway. This time around, the Roverdrive really looks like the best option. Hopefully all goes well.Comment
