what i did to my rover today

    Hello,

Well I put im my new gear reduction starter from british starters.
This this is great i love but, when i start it now it sounds like a race car starting. Not dealing with lucas starters anymore. Very nice. and i put in my new exaust manifold. nice and quiet. doesnt fill the cab with exaust either.

I attended a Downeast Land Rover Club shop day in Bar Harbor. I learned how to adjust front wheel bearings and finally learned how to properly adjust brakes. What a great day spent with great people.

Good to know you are working in a 'garage' with lots of aluminum around if you need to patch a panel or two!

With trusty mug-o-coffee in hand and fuzzy Homer Simpson slippers attached, I hiked the distance to my back 40 garage and did the weekly maintenance check this morning.

Yah, it's still there. Yup, the new parts are nestled cozily on the floor and back tub and nobody has bothered to install them yet. And sure 'nuff, it still must have oil in it cause I see perfectly formed droplets waiting in anticipation for the slightest breeze to direct them back down to earth.

                Hit the woods

Did what passes for the hardest trail around here, took the dog for a good long hike and tried to bury the ambulance in the mud! Much fun.

Took the Stage One out for a long'ish test drive to make sure I got the oil leak stopped. I drove from Sterling to Great Falls to Scotts Run for a short hike with my daughter. As we arrived in the parking lot at Scotts Run..... (nope - the oil leak was fine) .... my heater hose burst.

Lukily I carry duct tape and extra water in the truck. I let it cool down while we hiked and bandged it up for a slow limp home. Made it!

If it is not one thing then it is another..... (sigh).

Drove up over Parley's Summit into Park City. Rover did it - albeit slowly - nary a hiccup the whole day.

Poured 2 gallons of undiluted Simple Green in my parts washer and after much work got the completely soiled tranny brake parts in order. Drum painted and await final parts for assembly. Funny how nice it looks all cleaned up!

Finally got the rear drive shaft off and pulled the tranny brake. Now I feel bad as I did not clean it as well as the one above! Tonight I'll replace the out put seal as none of my sockets were large enough to cover it so I'll be making a trip back to our machine shop here at work today to borrow yet another tool. This should address my last "driveway stain"!!!!

Removed wings, roof, windows, doors, hood, and a bunch of parts after I took this photo. Galvanized bulkhead, breakfast, door/window frames, hinges, K/T member & a few other assorted pieces less than 1.5 months away!
