    New Diff Guard

I finally got around to installing my Christmas present to myself.... a galvanized bolt-on diff cover.

    Rover-Bling!!

[edit: By the way, you must remove one of your tie-rods end to move the steering rod out of the way to install this little gem.]

Well after driving around with the Soft top on, for about a week I fitted the hard top again nice and quiet, I don't think I will fit the soft top again this year.

Instead of the sideways facing seats I also fitted forward facing load area seats, not the original seats, but a home made solution, next is finishing the 3-point harnes for the load area seats (I'm still waiting for the mounting brackets and I need some seatcovers )

adjusted the brakes, drop the other fuel tank, pulled out both fuel level sender units and pick up tubes, check all oil level except the swivel balls, and threw five dry rotted tires into the sank that's hooked up to the 88. drank beers

            Rover junkyard revisited...

Went back to the rover junkyard today and scored big. I took pictures this time too. These pictures are of series 3 88's, one in pieces...the 2 complete ones were also packed full of goodies!

Here are some more shots. These are the parts i got for 200 bucks! pretty good deal considering i was going to buy new stuff until i found this guy. Just before i left i came across this series 3 motor and tranny just sitting on the ground in a barn full of horse stuff. Thats also the 1970 range rover with a crazy low build number in the 300's. What a solid day

See post #205 back on March 25.....

If there are two heater hoses right next to each other on the same motor, and one blows out. How long before the one right next to it blows out.....

... well today is April 3rd.... that makes it about 14 days or so. (sigh)

Another round of replacement hose and new coolant added.

(I know it will never end - but will it ever slow down....?)

I used the 109 to move 2 tons of mulch (in 100#bags, two trips) and then dragged several very heavy tree stumps into our burn pile using the newly installed Warn 8274 winch on a Pangolin winch bumper. At least the first use of the winch wasn't a self recovery....

I installed a pair of toggle switches into the small aux center panel (SIII) to operate the winch from inside the cab. One 'on-off' switch is power, and the other momentary 'on-off-on' switch is cable in and out. I also installed a 300 amp cut off switch at the grill.

I now have the same winch and bumper on the wife's V8 109, but need to complete the wiring.

We ran the '96 Disco to town, where it started to run very poorly and blow oil smoke, with the 'check engine' light flashing on and off. Hadn't seen that before.... Managed to get it home, but it was missing badly and down on power. Hmmm, something wrong, me thinks....

Changed oil and filter, checked all 90W levels and topped up as needed, replaced a u joint in my front drive shaft and dare I say it? I hand washed the old girl with a real car wash mit and everything instead of the usual blast with the pressure washer.

                        Added Rock sliders

I finally added sliders instead of the sills... pretty robust versions from Pangolin

Just drove the parts up to the chemical stripper for the first step towards galvanizing them. They'll be done in a week and then it's on to patch welding!

Lifted my series up with fork lifts just for the heck of it.

                                Finally getting back to it

Spent three years neglecting the truck after it immediately stopped working after coming back from a mechanic I sent it to while I was deployed (mistake). Got back to work on it, ordered some more parts and tried to get it to fire up. Looks like a condensor has gone bad. Parts should be here this weekend to fix it and then its off to the next problem... I remember the mechanic screwing with the clutch pedal so it barely travels now... will have to fix that... guess the lesson is don't let someone else work on your truck.....
