    88 Hardtop Weight

Anyone know how much a hardtop w/side panels weighs in at? I am creating a one man lift pulley system and want to make sure that I don't go under the weight...or overkill.

I can't say exactly because it has been a while since I last lifted one but I do know that I could move it myself as long as I could get under it and while having it sit on my back lift it with my legs. I'd guess somewhere between 100 and 150 lbs.

      that's my thoughts as well.
I know that the full size bronco tops had a factory spec of 150 lbs. I can't think taht ours would be heavier.

It depends on how many mouse nests and acorns from squirrels you have under your headliner.

It's way less than 150 pounds, probably a bit less than half that. I have lifted one single handed and walked it down a board to get off the truck.

definitely less than 150. big issue is the awkwardness of the roof once it's unbolted. easier than a pulley system would be you and a buddy or your significant other. i used to take it off alone and it was the balancing that was always the issue, not the weight.

              Doesn't weigh much.

I picked up my 109 hard top (3 door!) on my back, jumped up in the truck and put it on the caps.

As for your lift, "fyi, eggscellent idea" if you've got ~2 attachment points on the rafters above, you should be fine.

                What's a headliner??? Just kidding.

                (to the OP)
A basic 3-1 chain fall pully should be more than enough to lift it and ease any tension on the lines that you use to hold the top. I'm thinking about doing this in my garage too so please post some pics when you get your's installed.

                    One man roof lift

                    Here it is...

                    Materials:
                    4 - Eye bolts
                    4 - Lock Washers
                    4 - Nuts
                    8 - Washers
                    2 - 2x4
                    2 - 2x6
                    2 - Ratchet Straps

I took the 2x4s and 2x6s and made some what of an "I" beam....or more of a "L". My thought was that this would had some strength. Drilled holes through the drywall and the beams and attached the eyebolts.

Attached the rachet straps to through the windows, undid roof bolts and began to rachet the roof up. I placed a moving blanket on top of the roof and placed the door tops up there.
