    What's this lever?

So I just picked up my new to me Series IIa FFR. I'm trying to figure out if it indeed has an overdrive.

The lever has two forward positions. I engaged it while in 4th, but it didnt do anything.

Any thoughts? Is it a PTO

Its an Overdrive unit. SHould have 3 positions. All the way forward is engaged (or "in"), middle is neutral and all the way back (towards the seat) is disengaged (or out).

Best way to tell would be to crawl under it and take a pic of what it's connected to. Since it's going through the place where a RHD park brake lever would go, it could be connected to anything (or nothing). OD, PTO, Flux Capacitor.

Ejection seat. Reason why it didn't launch you is because.....it's made by Lucas....

I thought the big R was short for repair. It is not a standard overdrive lever for a fairey unit. Time to follow the linkage and see where it goes.

Looks too close to the tunnel to be monted in the opening for a RHD transmission brake lever - but maybe it's just the angle of the photo.

Either way, I guess it doesn't really matter. My guess is a Rear PTO.

              Overdrive

That Sir; is a Toro Overdrive....or at least it's a Toro Overdrive knob.

Decent unit---some say it's better than the Fairey, some say it's worse.

I say who cares!!! It's another lever to play with!!

Enjoy your new ride--I did notice the hand throttle....nice!!

              Cheers,

^^ AFAIK, the Toro overdrive lever comes out the side of the tunnel just like the Fairey. So, I don't think it's an overdrive. Plus, Burlsube stated that he engaged it in 4th gear and nothing happened.

I concur; not an overdrive unit, particularly a Toro unit. I know first hand.

The suspense is ****ing me!! (Sigh... K-I-L-L-I-N-G me). I say just give it another 2 days (or until somebody suggests that it's the handle to fire the torpedoes) then post a picture of what it's connected to UNDER the truck.

The suspense is ****ing me too... I'm afraid it will be a couple of days before I figure out what it is. Its at the garage getting a tune up and a few other things. The engine is very out of tune and the truck was barely able to get to 30mph. I suspect it hasnt had a tune up in about 20 yrs.

Maybe it's the ignition timing advance lever then.

It is called a frig lever. It is used to make your Rover run better when it is running like a friggin piece of crap.
