    Finally home

I've been lurking on here quite a while, just waiting for the day when I could post in this thread. Well, the auto transporter finally delivered so I am now officially a LR owner. So what did I do to my Rover today? I brought it home.

Got the old frame and front leaves off. Started unpacking one of the springs and set up an acid bath to dip them in to make the rust removal process a little easier.

Finished resealing the gearbox and put all my powder coated goodies on. Also got the rear main seal out of the engine and will install the new one tomorrow.

Know what you mean. When the kit comes in from Exmoor, heated seats in my 1960 109 will be part of the reupholstery job. Already converted to heated windscreens and Defender door seals.

With new seat covers and door trim I'll hardly recognize the interior. Which will be a good thing.

GOODBYE SU Carbs, hello Edelbrock 4 bbl

Finally had it with the sensitivity of the SU Carbs, so popped on a new Edelbrock manifold and 4 bbl...

Much less maintenance, and the Frankenstein RR V8 in the old 61 seems to love it also....

                Bugeye restore work

Started restoring parts for my 69 Bugeye.
I had the brake and clutch towers/pedals, bulkhead supports and bulkhead galvanized. This weekend I tapped out all the holes and reamed the bushing bores on the towers/pedals, rebuilt the fuel pump (will use as a spare), disassembled and cleaned steering box (think I will leave this unpainted), Painted tower parts, steering gear parts and reconditioned brake booster, and rebuilt the clutch master. Ordered some cleaner and conditioner for pretreating galvy parts for painting.

OOPs forgot one step. after rehabbing the holes on the other parts I see some challenging areas to renew on the bulkhead. Vent pin and hinge pin areas will be tough to get a drill into. Stonefox had a good suggestion to make / use a tool with a flexable shaft. I will not be able to get a drill motor in position to drill them out square. Any other suggestions would be appretiated.

Stonefox has a great suggestion. This guy did a very nice job of documenting the flexible drill bit he made .... http://www.gottdenerdesigns.com/bulkheadswap1.html

Buttoned everything up after my hellish gas tank/tow hitch install which of course included removing a wing while I waited for parts and installing a new-to-me exhaust manifold that cured an awful leak at the down pipe flange. Also took my distributor apart to replace a mangled mechanical advance spring with one I got off a second hand unit, though I don't think it is the correct version of the dizzy so the spring may be wrong. Timed the engine for the first time solo and it runs fantastic. Not sure if the exhaust leak could really be to blame for that, the timing, or a combination of the two.

Today I made a wiring harness for my alternator conversion on the 109 pickup. Now I just need to complete the connections and tighten all bolts.

Yesterday I got some minor work done on the 88 project- I dismantled the radiator/breakfast assembly and got about halfway through getting the engine ready to pull.

The radiator was an el cheapo aftermarket job, and the cooling fins were so far gone they crumbled like dry leaves. It went in the dumpster. The breakfast is rust free and will go to the galvanizer along with two bulkheads (one a spare I am hoarding) and other various bits.

Meanwhile all my parts have arrived for the gearbox rebuild on my 109 wagon. That will get done hopefully next week.

Owning more than one Land Rover is like herding cats...

That looks like a pretty decent rear crossmember. Anything has to be better than the junk replacements.
I hope there is something seriously wrong with that front bumper that doesn't show in the picture, because it sure looked like it used to be better than mine.
