I rebuilt the wheel cylinders and put the brakes back together and headed up the mountain to listen to Elk bugle in the fog (lousy weather). All in all a great day. didn't even see any Grizzly Bears just piles of Bear poop. The bears are eating berries and the other night my Brother watched 7 of them on the hillside.

Pulled off the bulkhead. Found neat African Ingenuity repair to the outrigger:
Should look like this of course:
Since it was in Uganda, using African Ingenuity is completely warranted.
Rot wasnt too bad:

Gym Floor Mats
After doing a 1000 mile trip in a series rover with no matting I figured I would look at doing somehting to assist in insulation and getting it a bit quieter. I saw some scraps of rubber gym floor matting at a local gym and asked the manager if I could purchase them. He just gave them to me for free so I then used an exacto knife and shears to cut them as required. They actualy have done a significant amount to keep the cab a bit cooler on the feet, to quiet it down, and for looks. They are a bit dirty in the pics after Fridays adventure but atleast you can get the idea. If anyone is strapped for cash this could be a very cost effective means of helping the rover out without making the wife angry.1971 Ex Mod IIA 109

My wife in her great wisdom purchased online for me a rear door tire carrier. the cruel part of it is that she shows me the wrapped package and even told me what it is yet I am not allowed to touch it untill I finish putting the back wall of the house together (something about winter and an open wall) Anywhay today the wall will be done and then I get to open the presents.....
I will post some pictures of the parts before and after.1968 Series IIA

RM Door Tops
I installed some RM door tops today. They are great and besides the cost I wonder why more of the rovers I have seen do not have them. They definitely seal better and cut down on some road noise.1971 Ex Mod IIA 109

Ratpatrol I hear you. I also drive a rover every day, work, play, errands.... Seem to have one in garage, SIII 88 lately, and driving the other 109 exmod. Back in the 88 today after doing a head replacement and gearbox work. There is a bit of a difference between the two. 88 drives down road, stops and turns better. 109 is a little roomier, stiffer suspension, and marginal brakes.
Started working on bugeye also. Disassembled the TCase to inspect and replace ALL seals to go with a remanufactured gearbox. Also getting the garage straightened up so I can pull it in there. That ought to be fun, Its a rolling chassie without a steering box or brakes.
I did get out to do a little offroading last Friday with the 109THING 1 - 1973 88 SIII - SOLD

Well, if I can count the last five weekdays:
the engine got:
New cam, lifters, timing chain, timing gears, fuel rail, fuel lines, cylinder heads, timing cover and water pump. The engine is in final stages of button up.
Gearbox:
I dropped off parts for an NP435 gearbox buildup at a local transmission specialist. He will be building a box with Ford NP435 case, Chevy NP435 gears & top cover, Ford 35 spline output shaft. This gearbox should be ready early next week and will replace the T-18 currently in my truck.
Also in process:
Recently took delivery of a new striped canvas for the Dormobile lifting top, a pintle hook, a new set of OME shocks and I have a new front bumper on order from Ike.

Terry, the beauty of the story is that the guy was totally embarrassed and I was being nice by not pointing out that a Taurus is not exactly made for soft sand on the beach. Then as I am hooking up my tow strap I see he is wearing a hat from a direct competitor to my families heating oil business and I asked him about it and he introduced himself as the owner and then I said "oh you must know my brother Patrick who runs Melia Fuel" the guy looked like he wanted to die on the spot. They both sit on an industry council together etc. I am certain at that point he'd have preferred to leave the car there and just run away. His admin called my brothers office manager on Monday and they were dying laughing about it.
He was however a nice guyBest,
Mark
